  • CD Davidson-Hiers

    Founder, board member, mentor • CD is a journalist and creative writer based in North Florida. She has a background as a K12 education and COVID-19 state data journalist and her work has appeared at the Bitter Southerner, Flamingo Magazine, USAToday, The Nation and elsewhere.

  • Ashira Morris

    Board member, mentor • Ashira Morris is a freelance reporter based between Tallahassee, Florida and Sofia, Bulgaria. She is interested in local environments and the forces that shape them, and her work has been published by Foreign Policy, The Guardian, and Sierra Magazine. She wrote the Panhandle chapter of A24's "Florida!" book and is an adjunct lecturer for the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications.

  • Max Chesnes

    Mentor • Max is the environment reporter for the Tampa Bay Times. He reports on public lands, climate justice, pollution, wildlife and intensifying hurricanes. Prior to working for the Times, Max covered environmental issues for Treasure Coast Newspapers and the USA Today network, writing about Lake Okeechobee, the Indian River Lagoon and Florida’s wondrous Everglades. Max is a 2023 journalism fellow at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy and a recipient of several environmental writing awards. He studied both journalism and sustainability at the University of Florida and is licensed to fly drones.

    Alex Harris

    Mentor • Alex Harris is the lead climate change reporter for the Miami Herald’s climate team, which covers how South Florida communities are adapting to the warming world. Her work has been honored by the Society of Environmental Journalists and the Florida Society of News Editors; she was part of the Herald team that won a breaking news Pulitzer for coverage of the Surfside collapse. She attended the University of Florida.

    Mentor • Torsheta Jackson is the Systemic and Education Editor at the Mississippi Free Press in partnership with Report for America. A former educator, she leads the Mississippi Youth Media Project and writes on systemic issues in Mississippi.

    Yacob Reyes

    Mentor • Yacob Reyes is a reporter based in Tampa, Florida. His work has been published by Axios, PolitiFact, The Tampa Bay Times, The Miami Herald, and KFF Health News, among others.

    Mentor • Ashley White is an education reporter with the Acadiana Advocate in Lafayette, Louisiana. She grew up in Jacksonville, is a UCF alumna and has been a reporter for 10 years. Her favorite parts of journalism are talking to passionate people and making complicated topics understandable.
